Twenty Third Street Distillery is the new incarnation of a century-old landmark at Twenty Third Street, Renmark, in South Australia’s fertile Riverland.
Further information about this distillery and the products they sell will be available soon.
In Renmark South Australia, where Riverland citrus and botanicals are in abundance you will find 23rd Street Distillery. I have only stayed in Renmark once when I was a teenager and I do remember it as having beautiful Australian bushland by the Murray River. Unfortunately, it was way before 23rd Street opened, and I was too young to drink gin.
Being 254km northeast of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, it is a little bit of a drive to get there, unless you happen to be making the journey to Adelaide from Sydney by road, then you can go right through this town on your way. Fortunately, they also have a cellar door in the city in North Adelaide on Melbourne Street where you can get their gins.
I have the Signature Gin which I tried with Mediterranean tonic and I tried it with a lime garnish and then orange. Both were nice and brought out the citrus in the drink, but I preferred the orange just slightly. Then I tried it with a premium Salted Grapefruit mixer and it really shone. The mixer is made with Murray River Rock Salt, so I guess it felt right at home pairing with this gin. 40% ABV, 700ml bottle $70AUD, beautiful bottle artwork by Claire Ishino There is also a gorgeous Limited Edition Violet Gin that I am dying to try but as yet I haven’t been able to get hold of any.
The bottle is beautiful as is the colour of the gin.
