Bitter Sweet Symphony! What a glorious way to describe this enchanting bottle of Orange Marmalade Welsh Gin which is distilled in the Welsh village of Abergwyngregyn which is home to their distillery, and which sits at the foot of the famous Aber Falls waterfall which attracts over 50,000 visitors a year! This picturesque spot is easily accessible, just off the A55 and a stone’s throw from the coast a beautiful part of Wales indeed. ****** The use of citrus flavours in this gin work just perfectly with the piney juniper providing the perfect combination to create a perfect Gin and Tonic. ******* A refined balance of sweet and bitter orange flavours and the pine flavour of juniper. A citrus hit with warming aftertaste, guaranteed to tickle your taste buds! ****** This Gin remarkably uses Welsh water filtered through the rock of the Snowdonia mountains and I find works amazingly well in a Gin Fizz. For the perfect Gin Fizz:- 50ml Aber Falls Orange Marmalade Gin (chilled) 75ml Prosecco (chilled) 50ml Soda water. Garnish with long orange zest and pour into a long stemmed glass filled with cubed ice. Build the ingredients into the glass, stir well and serve with a long straw. An incredible tasting Gin Fizz Also this Gin perfectly combines with tonic, or is a wonderful addition to any gin-based cocktail. It really is a must try Gin and with an ABV of 41.3% and priced around £23 for a 70cl bottle you can’t go wrong with this Gin.
I am originally from Wales, although sadly for me I was plucked from there when I was four, and I grew up most of my life in South East England apart from a brief spell in Switzerland. My wife knows that I have a love for gin and for Wales and decided to give me this as a present. I think she was quite surprised when I tasted it and said that I thought it was really nice.
This gin comes from a distillery in the village of Abergwyngregyn, which is at the gateway of the Snowdonia National Park and very near to the Aber Falls, from which it takes its name. I love the way they embrace and are so proud of the local area. I think this is reflected in the final product and their attention to detail. The nose of the gin would be indistinguishable from many other London Dry gins but the taste is reasonably smooth, smoother than Gordons but not as smooth as Pitwheel Classic Dry Gin or Martin Miller for example.
This is a really lovely London based gin but with a little of spice which almost gives a hint of the botanicals. It is quite a delicate flavour but could easily work with a standard tonic, Mediterranean, and even Elderflower. I am not sure it is ready for dry martini yet but it is definitely usable in other cocktails.
I prefer it served with Fever-Tree Mediterranean but that is just me !!!
It costs £22.19 on Amazon.
