Henstone Distillery was established in Oswestry, Shropshire, United Kingdom in 2017 by Chris and Alexandra Toller, and Shane and Alison Parr. Shane and Alison also run an established brewery and the distillery is based at the brewery site. We spent several years planning our venture. After receiving a grant from the RDPE we installed an impressive 1000 litre still, affectionately named Hilda. Hilda was manufactured by Kothe in Germany and supplied to us by their UK agents Ryebeck Limited.
Our aim is to create the best quality products for people like us who enjoy sophisticated, classic spirits, but with that small batch twist.
We produce three gins, all of which have won awards:-
Henstone London Dry Gin: This product won “Best in Britain 2020” in The Gin Guide awards. It’s a true premium gin at 44.9% and is incredibly smooth so can be drunk neat but is equally at home in G&T or as the base for a great cocktail.
Henstone Rosé Gin: This is our oak aged expression which won the aged gin category in the 2020 Gin Guide awards. Essentially our London Dry but matured briefly in new American oak barrels. The result is a gin with a hint of natural vanilla (from the wood) and lovely golden hue. Great with a quality ginger ale or as a regular G&T!
Henstone Navy Gin: Powerful at 57.3% but again, incredibly smooth. Described by some of our customers as the best value gin they’ve ever seen! Makes a fabulous G&T or a very traditional pink gin!!
The scale of our still allows us to pass the financial benefits to the end customer.
We don’t only produce gin! Behind the scenes we have been making whisky from the start and our very first batch will launch in January 2021. We also produce a British Bourbon which we call Old Dog Corn Liquor, a charcoal filtered Vodka and an apple brandy which we call Nonpareil.
So I have tried the Henstone Rosé Gin. And from shipping to delivery all quick and very positive!! This beautiful gin was made in a distillery based at the brewery site Oswestry, Shropshire. I was curious to find out about the name of this company and it turns out “Henstone” originates from the family homes of the co-founders. Chris and Alex live in an ex-public house called “The Hen and Chickens”, and the other founders- Shane and Alison live in “Stonehouse”. Thought it was really neat! . Henstone Rosé gin is I different one and I love it. I was into whisky before gin and this London fry gin is aged matured in New American Oak casks before they bottle the beauty. . For any one that is like me and enjoys whiskey and gin this is definitely up your street. As soon as you open this up you are hit with those woody aromas from the cask but followed by the familiar pine notes from the juniper. When I first tasted this gin I was instantly hit the smokey vanilla flavour from the cask instantly giving you that warmth in your mouth. Settling nicely with bursts of juniper and coriander with a slight citrus zing. . Definitely one for any collection and I’m excited to explore their whole range from whisky to vodka! Not to mention how many awards all their gins have received!! . Watch out for my nest post of my cocktail I created with this wonderful Gin. I called it “The smokey barrel”… ? ??????? ?????? Check out this cocktail I came up with. Had so much fun with gin. It’s versatile. With so many flavours, again note of oak and vanilla to the piney juniper. Absolutely delicious in a cheeky cocktail. So I came up with the: Smoking Barrel INGREDIENTS ~50mls Henstone Gin ~25mls triple sec ~15mls fresh lemon ~half a teaspoon of cinnamon ~egg white ~5mls sugar syurp METHOD ~Everything into the shaker with ice. ~Shake for 10 secs plus some ~Pour, serve This cocktail has a citrus kick, as I’m a sucker for citrus! Can’t wait to play some more with this amazing barrel gin Also they have an absolutely amazing range which I also intend to try! Such a. Fabulous company and would 10/10 recommend
