Nene Valley Spirits is the first micro-distillery to be based in Peterborough and the Nene Valley region.
We are distillers of premium, handcrafted and small batch gins available online and at our micro-distillery located on the artisan courtyard at Sacrewell Farm, near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
Nene Valley Spirits was set up by local residents Leigh Taylor and John Morris who turned their love of gin into a micro distillery during lockdown in 2020. Leigh is a self taught distiller and after being furloughed, this inspired him and local gin enthusiast John to launch Peterborough and the Nene Valley regions first micro distillery at Sacrewell Farm. The pair reached out to gin connoisseurs across the country, sending out tasters to gain feedback for their two gins Ermine Street and Colibri before launching, and opening their doors in December 2020. Colibri currently retails at £39.00 and shipping is £6.00 for Parcelforce Express 48 delivery. The gin is inspired by Leighs travels in Latin America and features the image of the Colibri hummingbird on the bottle, with a lovely green wax seal ( unfortunately my bottle was still a little hard to get into after peeling off the ribbon from the seal ). Botanicals include physalis (cape gooseberry), tonka bean, brazil nut, pink peppercorn, ancho chile, avocado leaf, stevia, epazote and allspice. On the nose the gin is juniper and spice forward, followed by a gentle waft of fruit. The palate leads with juniper and warming spice from the peppercorns and allspice, and finishes with a hint of fruit from the physalis. I followed one of the recommended serves of Merchants Heart pink peppercorn tonic water and garnished with a slice of dehydrated pink grapefruit
