The York Gin Company was established by friends Paul Crossman, Pete McNichol, Harry Cooke, Emma Godivala, and the late Paul Farrow.
The distillery is located in Acaster Malbis, just 4.5 miles from York center. York Gin launched on 1st March 2018, with the aim of putting York on the gin map, along with with it’s fascinating history.
Following the successful launch of two further gins the York Gin Shop opened in April 2019, on Pavement in the heart of the city center.
York Gin Old Tom launched on World Gin Day 8th June 2019. For this gin, they worked with Michelin Star chef, Andrew Pern. He helped create a sugar syrup with the white alba rose as it’s the main ingredient. Native to Yorkshire hedgerows, its famous for being the rose on the Yorkshire flag. Other ingredients include bronze fennel, star anise, angelica and pink peppercorns.
The taste is creamy, but not overly sweet. It has a delicate floral taste, with a subtle peppery spice.
I served with Fever-Tree Light Indian tonic water and garnished with star anise.
